Dorras Altherr Cain, 92, formerly of Clarks Summit, died Wednesday morning at Linwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Scranton. She was the wife of the late J. Howard Cain who died in 1976.
Born in Ironton, Ohio on October 29, 1924, she was the daughter of Norbert and Josephine Wilson Altherr. She was raised in Woodlawn Beach, NY and graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1942. In 1949 she married James Howard Cain and moved to Waverly, PA in 1964. She was a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Glenburn since 1964.
Dorras took many adult education classes, her favorite being "Little Theatre" of which she was a member in 1951 in Orchard Park, NY. She spent the winter months in Treasure Island, FL in the 80's and 90's and made many lifetime friends there. Her favorite pastime was listening to CD's of Big Band and Classic Country music and also Old Gospel Hymns. She loved to dance in her younger years.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda Langan and her companion, William, Northampton, Diane Roland and her companion, Robert of Clarks Summit, and Roberta Fassett and her husband Marty of Winder, GA; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Brian and his wife Ann Langan of Allentown, Kelly Gower and her husband Scott, Jessup and Kathleen Roland, Clarks Summit; great grandchildren, Emily Langan, Jacob Rinehimer, Tayler Roberts, Alexandria and Nathaniel Langan, Tyler and Nate Moser, all of Allentown, and Rylie and Owen Gower of Jessup; a sister, Ruth Blackwell of Hamburg, NY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son James Howard Cain III in 1971; four sisters, and four brothers.
The funeral service and interment at Abington Hills Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
