Dorothy May "Dot" Oakes died Thursday afternoon at the Geisinger Community Medical Center. She was the widow of John Oakes Jr. who died in 2006. The couple was married for over 52 years.

Born in Scranton she was the daughter of Walter and Edna May Kime.

She was a 1943 graduate of the Clarks Summit-Clarks Green Joint High School. She attended Clarks Green United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Chinchilla United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Crusaders Class. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and a member of the Dames of Malta. Prior to her retirement she worked at the Gas Company and at the family business, Superior Welding.

Dot was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid Penn State fan who loved her family and friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Geraldine "Gerry" Loveless and her husband, William, Chinchilla and Joanne Kronstedt and her husband John, Waverly, MN; a son John Oakes III, Chinchilla; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Loveless, Yonkers, NY.

She was preceded in death by a sister Eleanor Rozelle and two brothers Robert and Norge Kime.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11am in the Clarks Green United Methodist Church, 119 Glenburn Rd., Clarks Green with services by Rev. Brent Stouffer, pastor. Interment will be at 2 pm in the Abington Hills Cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday from 10am until the time of the service at the church.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Chinchilla Hose Co., 113 Shady Lane Rd., Chinchilla PA 18410.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
