Dorothy D'Amato, 88, of Clarks Summit, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph J. D'Amato Sr., who died in May 2004.

Born Dec. 16, 1920, in Manhattan, daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Eulo Balz, she was a resident of Clarks Summit for the past 15 years, moving from Queens, N.Y. Before retiring, she was employed by New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center of New York City. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit, involved with its Friday Morning Club, the Lazarus Ministry and Telespond.

Surviving are a son, Joseph J. Jr. and wife, Susan, Glenburn Twp.; a daughter, Phyllis A. D'Amato Burke, Arizona; two grandchildren, Meghan Burke and Angela D'Amato; four stepgrandchildren, August Jr., Michael, David and Christopher Perrotti; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Robyn and Andrew Perrotti; two sisters, Gussie Greco, Sunrose Path, Beverly Hills, Fla.; and Mary Szewezuk, Deer Park, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Balz, Lindenhurst, N.Y.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ida D'Amato and Alice Fazio; and a brother, Henry Balz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery.

Friends and family may call today, 6 to 8 p.m.; and Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
