Doris M. Beers Dempsey

Doris Dempsey, 94, Clarks Summit, died Friday morning. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Fred C. Dempsey.
Doris was born in Scranton to the late Harold and Anna Brown Beers, raised in Chinchilla and was a graduate of Central High School and Lackawanna Business College. After Fred's service in the United States Navy during WWII, they returned to Clarks Summit where their business, OK Tire Service, was established. Doris was an active member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church for over 60 years, Couples Class, Abington Womens Club and an avid golfer of the Lake Winola Canoe Club.
Her favorite hobbies were golfing with her longtime, good friends, daily Scranton Times-Tribune crossword puzzles and researching the family's genealogy, reaching back to the 1400s.
Surviving are children, Donna and Gary Rutherford, Barbara and Craig Mark, Fred and Debbie Dempsey; nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Nicolas and Devlin Rutherford, Corey and Todd Mark, Tyler and Lauren Dempsey, Craig and Heather Mark; great-grandchildren, Harper, Lorelei, Asher, Theodore and Charles, all of whom made her smile.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Jeanne and in-law, Jack Lance, Long Island, N.Y.; and Shirley and in-law, Stan Rector, Vestal, N.Y.
Calling hours will be from noon to 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
