Doris Eckel, RD 2 Dalton, died Friday night at the hospice unit of Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Howard Eckel.
Born in Wilkes Berre on March of 1924, daughter of the late Alfred and Sarah Nieman. She was a 1942 graduate of Falls Overfield High School and a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Falls, PA
Doris helped her late husband, Howard work on their dairy farm and were the owners and operators of How Kola Campground until his death in 1981. She also worked at the Falls Dress Factory as a seamstress.
Before turning ill, Doris lived at home with her daughter and son in law, Robyn and Mark Merrifield, and her two grandchildren, Matthew and Autumn.
Also surviving are two other daughters, Linda Firestine, Tunkhannock, and Lois Nuss, Cape Cod, Mass.; a sister, Nancy Houck, Wyoming, PA; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen who died in 1959.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Community Medical Center and Hospice Care. They also would like to thank Dr. Stephen Jaditz and his staff for their professional and compassionate care.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10am from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit with services by Pastor Eric Luczak. Interment will be in Newton Cemetery.
