Doris Dempsey

Doris L. Dempsey, 93, of Clarks Summit, PA, passed away peacefully on October 29, at The Pines in Clarks Summit. Her husband of 47 years, Edward F. Dempsey died January 15,1993.

Born in Clifton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Ethel Meyer. She resided in Clarks Summit for more than 50 years and retired from Scranton Surgical and Supply in 1986.

Always on the go, she was a world traveler, having toured all 50 states, more than 20 countries including Russia and her most favorite, China.  A four-time cancer survivor, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and Allied Services. She was a member of the former Abington Women's Club, The Red Hat Society and The First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit where she was the Women's Circle Treasurer until early this year.

Nicknamed "Big Red" for her flaming red hair  and "Bubbles" for her infectious energy, she loved to dance and to always give back to the community. She felt blessed for her numerous friends and deeply loved her family who will miss her tremendously.

She is survived by her sister, Joan(Joseph) Silva of NJ, her three children, Edward (Erma) of Newton, NJ; Darlene (Dennis) Sienicki of Pohatcong; Laura of Painted Post, NY; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Meyer.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM from the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Laurel Grove Cemetery , Totowa, NJ.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 – 8pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit.
