Donald Paul Shiffer Sr., 78, Clarks Summit, died Sunday morning in the VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. His wife is Wilda Jean Ace Shiffer. They would have celebrated their 34nd wedding anniversary on July 2nd.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Dale Eramus and Emily Edwards Shiffer. He attended West Scranton High School.

Don was a member of the Bricklayers Local 18 Union since 1945. He was a lifetime member with 63 years of dedicated membership. He served on the Executive Committee for Negotiations and the Apprentice Committee. He worked for Bright Construction Company for most of his career. He was a talented and skilled mason who was respected for his hard work and dedication.
He took pride in his trade as a third generation bricklayer and past down this tradition to his son and grandson.

Upon retirement Don was employed by the Lackawanna County Stadium Authority for twelve as an usher for Red Barons baseball games and as an employee at the ice rink Don was a member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church. He was a social member of the Clarks Summit V.F.W. Post 7069 and was the first social member to receive a lifetime membership card. He was a social member at the Lithuanian Taurus Club and the Polish Club.

Don was a unique and dedicated man. He took pride in his home and delighted in manicuring his yard. He found pleasure in polishing his cars and other items around his home. He was a social man who enjoyed his many friends and was known to find someone who he new however far he traveled.

Also surviving are a son, Donald P. Shiffer Jr. And wife, Candice C., Scranton; daughter, Dale Ann Syrylo and her husband, Leo, Taylor; stepson Dennis W. Morgan, and his wife Edith, Graham, Washington; grandchildren, Donald P Shiffer III, Mark C. Shiffer, Kristen Shiffer Strong, Leo John Syrylo, and Mariah Ann Syrylo; a great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Shiffer.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 10am from the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. Judy Wanck, pastor.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
