Donald E. Lewis, 92, of Clarks Summit died Tuesday, March 27th at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. His wife of 66 years is the former Barbara Nicholls.
Born in Clarks Summit, he was the son of the late Levi Roy and Ruth Chivers Lewis. He graduated from Clarks Summit High School, Lehigh University with a mechanical engineering degree, and the University of Scranton with a Masters in Business Administration. He retired as the Chief Engineer at Sprague and Henwood. Don served in the Navy during World War II and was training to be a Naval aviator when the war ended. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit.
Don will be greatly missed by his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and reliable friend. He was proud of his Comet sailboat which he sailed on Baylors Lake, his summer home. He designed and built his own dock on which his family spent many happy hours.
Surviving are son Todd Lewis and wife Langley; daughter Donna Smolow and husband Mitchell; brother J. Richard Lewis; sister Beverly Holt; seven grandchildren, Aislinn Lewis, Eliza Gulbransen and husband Daniel, Timothy Lewis, Maret Smolow Landherr and husband Lucas, Alec Smolow, Aaron Smolow, Linley Smolow; two great-grandchildren, Laurel and Tegan; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, 300 School St., Clarks Summit,PA, 18411, or to any charity in Don's memory.
