Donald Thompson Foster, 91, died Saturday morning at the Northeast PA Hospice in Scranton. His wife of 67 years, Marjorie Thayer Foster, died in July.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Floyd Benjamin and Helen Thompson Foster, he earned an associates degree in 1940 from Keystone Junior College, beginning his long association with the school, and a bachelor's degree in 1942 from Lehigh University. He entered the Navy and served as lieutenant on an escort carrier in the Pacific Theater through the end of World War II, earning several medals and a Diamond Shellback Certificate for crossing the equator 75 times.

Don began his career at Keystone in the business office and subsequently served as business manager for 39 years before retiring in 1985. He was an avid supporter of the wrestling, soccer and other athletic programs while at Keystone, where Marjorie also worked. He was a member of the Abington Rotary Club for many years and served as president. He was a member of the original Lackawanna Trail School Board and also served on the Wyoming County School Board.

After retirement, Don was a member of SCOLA and a president and member of the board of directors of Dalton Community Library. He was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was on the building committee for the present church. Don was also a member of the Abington Allamanders Square Dance group.

Surviving are daughters, Donna Altschul and husband, Bob, Tucson, Ariz.; and Deborah Spedding and husband, James, Scott Twp.; son, Larry Foster and wife, Nancie Connolly, Arlington, Va.; three grandchildren, Nathan and Melissa Mercuri, and Alison Foster; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family by the Rev. Brian Lucas, pastor of Dalton United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.

Friends may call Monday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
