Debra Ann Palermo passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born to Alec and Regina Swaha of Scranton, PA, Debra was a fighter with an endless capacity to care for those she loved. Fiercely independent, stubborn to a fault, and truly one of a kind.
Debra enjoyed a vibrant chapter of her life as a managing partner of Cues & Quarters, a billiard room she ran alongside her life partner. She met many wonderful people there and thoroughly enjoyed that time in her life. After the business closed, she dedicated 16 years to working at Wal-Mart before stepping away to care for her ailing parent.
Known for her deep love of family, Debra cherished gathering her "small clan" together for her home-cooked meals. She was renowned for her famous, from-scratch homemade gravy, which was the warm centerpiece of many family gatherings. In prior years, she looked forward to her yearly trips to Florida to relax and unwind with her partner.
Debra's kindness touched many souls over the years. Her spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by her son, William Palermo, and a sister, Patricia Cruise.
She is survived by her loving partner, Burrell Deats of Scott Township; her son, Timothy Palermo of Old Forge; two beloved grandchildren, Ava and Jack Palermo of Scranton; and two sisters, Kim Fumanti and husband Dennis of Allentown, and Carol Esposito and husband Rosario of Scranton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for their compassionate care and kindness.
A funeral will be held on Friday, October 9th at 6 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Friends may pay their respects to the family at the funeral home that day from 4 pm until the time of the service.
