Listen to Obituary

David (Dave) William Jones, 75, of Clarks Summit, passed away at Hospice of the Sacred Heart on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, after a long battle with leukemia. His beloved wife and best friend of 54 years is the former Frances L. Kochis. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Preston and Marjorie Lanyon Jones.

Dave was a 1959 graduate of Clarks Summit Abington High School, attended East Stroudsburg State College and was an Air Force veteran. He was employed for many years as a data processing manager at the former First State Bank in West Scranton and until his retirement as an accounting manager at the former Casket Shells Inc. in Eynon.

Dave was the past president of the Abington Lions Club, a member of the TNA golf league and the Summit Hills Senior golf league. As a former member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, he held a number of board positions as well as being a monthly usher. He joined his wife as a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in 2016, at which time the couple renewed their wedding vows.

Always athletic, he loved sports, especially golf, whether he was playing or watching matches on television. He enjoyed Monday night football gatherings with "the guys," fishing in Canada, vacations in Hilton Head and Florida. He also enjoyed his morning coffee at McDonalds with the "older men" in his life; they all became true friends.

Dave was a quiet man who was liked by all who knew him. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. The greatest joy in his life was his family. He was so proud of their accomplishments, their college achievements and the adults they have become. His greatest sorrow was the illness and death of his daughter, Kimberly Jones Fraley, in 2015. It broke his heart.

A beautiful light has gone from our lives and he will never be forgotten.

Also surviving are his son, David Preston Jones, Clarks Summit; granddaughter, Meghan K. Fraley, Cape Charles, Va.; a brother, Richard, Dunmore; a sister, Sally Jones Robertson and husband, Rob, Scranton; a sister-in-law, Grace Farnham and her husband, Joe; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his daughter and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Jones; his in-laws, Frank Kochis, Angeline Kochis; and a cousin, Larry Wellard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Quinn, pastor. All of those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be at a later date in Clarks Green Cemetery.
