David "Wayne" Maas, 89, of Ransom Twp., died Saturday morning at the Commonwealth Hospice Unit at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was the husband of Jean Anderson Maas. The couple would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this month.
Born in Ransom Twp., he was the son of the late David and Sybil Petty Maas. Before retirement in 1989, he was a machine tender for Potlatch in Ransom for 44 years. He was a member of the former Milwaukee United Methodist Church, presently the Countryside Community Church.
Wayne enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Promised Land State Park with his family and had a great passion for his apple orchard.
Also surviving are a son, Ronald Maas and wife, Beverly, Falls; two daughters, Barbara Allen and husband, Anthony, Moosic; and Gail Yasinskas and husband, Edward, Clarks Summit; nine grandchildren, David Maas; Julie Delasandro and husband, Andrew; Michael Maas and wife, Ashley; Ronald Maas and wife, Kristy; Bryan Allen and wife, Mary Beth; Kelly Rushefski and husband, John; Christine Day and husband, Thomas; Joseph Yasinskas and wife, Jennifer; and Jason Yasinskas; 16 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, by the Rev. Brent Stouffer, pastor of Clarks Green United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at a later date in Milwaukee Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Newton Ransom Volunteer Fire Company, 1890 Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
