David Louis Ewert, 90, of Winona Lake, Indiana, went to be with his Savior Jesus on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake assisted by Stillwater Hospice.
He was born on February 10, 1936, in Buffalo, NY to Edward and Matilda (Peruzzi) Ewert. Upon graduation from Alden Central High School, Alden, NY, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he actively served from 1955 -1957 and then in the reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1961.
He married Lillian Holtz, also from Alden, on May 11, 1957. David was employed by National Fuel Gas Corporation of Buffalo, NY where he was a stockkeeper. He retired in 1996 after 30 years. He and Lillian moved to Scranton, PA, and were active members of Faith Baptist Church. He served at various times as a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher. David and Lillian also dedicated their time serving the Lord on numerous short term mission trips. Upon moving to Indiana, he attended church at the chapel of Grace Village. He was a gifted artist and was involved in Grace Village's ARTcare program.
David possessed a servant heart, always helpful wherever needed. He dearly loved his family and leaves behind a legacy of love for Christ, desiring for all of his family to know and follow Jesus. David will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Barbara and her husband Brad of Warsaw, IN, six grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Settle, Oak Park, IL, Daniel (Lauren) Settle, Richmond, VT, Jessica (Ryan) Hart, Yazoo City, MS, Jana Phillips, Lancaster, PA, Sharon (Brad) Morris, Lancaster, PA, and Elisabeth (Andrew) Barnes, Durham, NC. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren, Carrie, Alida, Emmett, Winona, Karis, Anakin, Ty, Will, Victor and Teresa. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, Sarah Phillips, son-in-law Barry Phillips and his brother, Edwin Ewert.
A memorial service for David will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, Indiana. Pastor Bryan Benjamin will officiate. Local arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth-Byers Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
David's life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. A graveside service will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, Pennsylvania with military rites conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.
