Darlene Skelton, 54, Eynon, went to be with the Lord Thursday, surrounded
by her family, after a long illness.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Joyce Walters Demming, Carbondale, and the late Elwood Demming. She was the wife of Larry Skelton, Carbondale; mother of Brad Skelton, Carbondale; and stepmother of Eric Skelton, Plains.
Darlene grew up in Scott Township graduating from Lakeland High School
and later raised her family in Clarks Summit. She attended CTC of Lackawanna County's Practical Nursing Program before her illness. She worked at Scott 60 and Homestead Restaurants, Scott Township; Scranton and Dunmore Healthcare Centers; Dunmore Drug Store; and Gentex, Carbondale.
She had a compassionate heart and was always willing to give her time and treasures to help others. Her passion was to serve people in Christ's name. She was active in ministries at the former Dickson City Assembly of God, including various food pantries, on prayer teams, and visiting the elderly and infirm. She received her Certificate in Bible Studies through Global University Berean School of the
Bible.Darlene was artistic and a master baker. She crafted beautiful needlepoints, oftentimes drawing her own patterns and transformed used materials into new gifts for family and friends. Her handmade gifts were cherished more than anything store-bought. Her homemade pies and decorated cakes were second to none. Her teams were Penn State and Washington Redskins. She had a great sense of humor, unique laugh, and was a practical joker. Gatherings were lively with her presence.
Her faith in Christ never wavered right until the end. Her passing is a tremendous loss to everyone whose lives she touched and for those who love her.
Also surviving are brothers, Norman and wife, Amy, Hamlin; Gordon and
wife, Jill, Vandling; Randy, Dickson City, and companion, Donna Royce,
Scranton; and Douglas, Archbald; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. She also had the longtime companionship of Rob Jurkewicz, Throop.
She was preceded in death by her niece, Shiloh Demming, and sisters-in-law, Kathy Skelton and Barb Demming.
Services were held privately with arrangements entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
Please offer condolences on Young's website, or mail cards to Norman Demming, PO Box 353, Hamlin, PA 18427.
