Daniel James Hughes, 52, of Dalton, died Monday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, after a brief illness. His wife of 24 years, Debbie Donath Hughes, died July 5.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Gerard and Doris Lynott Hughes, he was a graduate of Bishop Hannan High School and was employed by Crystal Soda Water Co. for 35 years. He was a member of the Teamsters' Union and Corpus Christi Church, Montdale. Dan was also a local disc jockey and videographer, something he enjoyed greatly.
He was a loving husband who cared for his wife during her illness. He was very proud to be a father to Ryan, to whom he was totally dedicated. He had many friends whose friendships he deeply cherished. Dan also cherished his North Scranton roots and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are a son, Ryan Donath Hughes, at home; a sister, Kathy Hughes Kahanowitz; a brother, Gerald Hughes; his father-in-law, William O. Donath; his mother-in-law, Marge S. Donath; a sister-in-law, Leslie Graham and husband. Michael Graham, and their children, Zachary Michael, and Alexa Margherita; nieces, nephews, a grandniece and cousins.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with Mass at 10 in Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
