Dale D. Lindholm, M.D.

Dale D. Lindholm, 89, of Clarks Summit died April 15 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.

He was born December 4, 1931 in Duluth, Minnesota, and had lived in Clarks Summit for 43 years. He retired as a physician in 2004, having maintained a private practice in Internal Medicine and Nephology in both Scranton and Moscow since 1978. A 1957 graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, he went on to lead a storied career as a pioneer in Kidney Dialysis. He served in both the U.S. Navy as well as the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), Commissioned Officer Corps, achieving the permanent grade of Medical Director (US Navy Captain equivalent). From 1964-66, he served as Chief of Research and Nephrology, USPHS Hospital and Seamen's Memorial Laboratory, New Orleans. He was Head, Department of Kidney Diseases, Department of Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, 1965-74; also, Chief of Nephrology, U.S. Veterans Administration Hospital, New Orleans and Charity Hospital. He was Chairman of the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, West Virginia University School of Medicine (WVU), Morgantown, WV, 1974-78. Widely published and a leading researcher and clinician in Kidney Diseases and Nephrology, he was appointed Professor of Medicine at Tulane in 1970, at the time, the youngest ever to be given that academic appointment, and served in that capacity both there and at WVU. He came to Northeastern Pennsylvania in 1978 to serve as an Associate Physician with what was to be the Moses Taylor Kidney & Hypertension Institute.

Most significantly, at the age of 9, he saw himself a sinner and put his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior. Dr. Lindholm was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Clarks Summit.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David and J. Lillian Lindholm, and two brothers, Stanley and Reuben.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Dolores; a son, Ron of Burke, VA; a daughter, Cyndi Roe of Clarks Summit, PA; a sister, Carol Heideman of Lakeland, FL; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 19, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Heritage Baptist Church 415 Venard Road in Clarks Summit, PA with services to follow at 10:00 AM. A graveside service and interment will follow immediately at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Waverly, PA.
