Cynthia Lewis Schmidt passed away Friday morning due to the progression of complications associated with multiple sclerosis, with her loving daughter by her side.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Arthur Lewis Jr., Dalton, and the late Theresa Fazio Lewis, who died on Sept. 22, 2013. She was a graduate of Lacka-wanna Trail High School. She showed passion for music in her beautiful piano playing in a jazz band, and self-taught guitar playing. Despite her illness, she was always able to give a laugh and a smile, making others laugh and smile with her. She touched the hearts of all who came to know and care for her. The family would like to thank her medical staff and caregivers for their compassionate care, commitment and love over the years. She will be truly missed by them and her loving family.

Also surviving are a daughter, Erica Lewis, Dalton; a son, Timothy Schmidt, Scranton; two sisters, Laura Kitzmiller, Wilkes-Barre; and Brenda Lewis, Albrightsville; a brother, Eric Lewis and his wife, Pam, Dalton; a nephew, Shane Kitzmiller, Wapwallopen; two nieces, Elin and Jillian Lewis, Dalton; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Lewis, La Plume; a godmother, Aunt Rosie and her husband, Uncle Paul Wentovich, Mayfield; a godfather, Pat Fazio, East Stroudsburg; and other aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Jack The Barber and Jean J. Fazio; and paternal grandfather, Arthur Lewis Sr.

The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Elder Mitch Ryan, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. Interment will be private in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Dunmore.

Friends may call on Monday from 10 until time of the service.
