Claire L. Carter, 87, formerly of Scott Township, PA, died Saturday, May 12, at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, following a period of declining health.  She was the widow of Rembert Carter, who died July 3, 2004.  They were high school sweethearts and had just celebrated their 50th year of marriage when he passed.

Born in Placentia, California, on September 14, 1930, she was the daughter of Bernard and Beulah Simpson Carlson.  Claire attended San Jose State University to become a teacher.  She ably assisted her husband as a college professor's wife and, over many years, as a pastor's wife in multiple locations.

Claire was a 13 year breast cancer survivor.  She greatly enjoyed, and participated in when possible, various forms of music.  She formerly served as a lifeguard, collected handkerchiefs, and was well-known for her gracious hospitality.

Surviving are a son Scott (Lisa) of San Jose, California, a daughter Melinda (Kevin) Card of Athens, Pennsylvania, and a daughter, Gretchen, with whom she resided.  Also six grandchildren and one great grandson, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Claire was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Wolberg, brother, Forrest Irwin, one niece and several nephews.

A celebration of Claire's life will be held Saturday, June 2, at 2:00 pm at Summit Baptist Bible Church, 232 Noble Road, Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, where Claire served at her husband's side when he pastored there.  Calling hours will precede the service, beginning at 1:00 pm.  Interment was in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice, Summit Baptist Bible Church at the above address, Clarks Summit University, 538 Venard Rd., Clarks Summit, PA, or the Alzheimers Association of Greater PA, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes Barre, PA.

The family wishes to thank the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and acknowledges the numerous caretakers who have stepped forward to lend their time and assistance during her decline.
