The Rev. Charles Russell Peers of South Abington Twp. went to be with the Lord Friday. His wife is the former Marie Tomey. The couple had been married for 59 years.

Born in Albany, N.Y., son of the late Russell and Elizabeth Peers, he received his bachelor's degree from Shelton University, his divinity degree from Bloomfield College, his Master of Arts at NYU and his theologiae magistrum from Princeton University. He pastored Presbyterian churches in Nanticoke, Sussex, N.J., and Moosic prior to his retirement in 1994. After retiring he substituted at the Presbyterian church in Forty Fort. A resident of the Abington area since 2001, he especially enjoyed his hobby of flying radio-controlled airplanes.

Also surviving is a daughter, Pam Peers, South Abington Twp.; a brother, Earle Peers, and wife, Doris, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister, June Peers, Dunellen, N.J.; and two nephews.

The funeral service will be Wednesday at noon at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Harry McElroy. Interment will be in Clarks Green Cemetery.
