Listen to Obituary

Charles “Chick” Thomas Evers, 84, of West Abington Township, Pennsylvania, and Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Nursing Home on October 20, 2026. Born in 1942, Scranton, Pennsylvania, Chick was the son of the late Stephen J. Evers and Alice T. (Connor) Evers.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Chick served aboard the USS The Sullivans (DD-537). His Navy service remained an important part of his life as he proudly wore his USS The Sullivans hat throughout the years. Visiting his former ship with his family at the Naval & Military Park in Buffalo, New York, remains a cherished family memory for his children.

Following his military service, Chick returned to Scranton, where he worked alongside his father at Evers Gun Shop on North Main Avenue. After his father's passing, Chick began a long and successful career as an entrepreneur in real estate. He founded Castle Real Estate and later established Chick Evers Real Estate in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Over the years, he expanded into commercial and residential real estate appraisals, and with several partners established Commonwealth Appraisal Service. Alongside his longtime friend, Ralph Noto, Chick also developed Oakwood Estates on Keyser Avenue in Scranton. His expertise eventually led him to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where he served as Chief Appraiser in the Right-of-Way Department until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Chick enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, motorcycles, winemaking, and boating. In retirement, he divided his time between his homes in Pennsylvania, and Florida. He and his wife, Barbara, spent their winters enjoying Florida and their summers in northeastern Pennsylvania. Together, accompanied by their beloved cat, Sadie, they traveled in their motorhome and enjoyed boating in Florida.

Chick leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Evers; his five children, Jane Archer and husband, Greg, Charles Evers and wife, Carrie, Colleen Evers, Chad Evers and wife, Jessica, and Barbara Lesnesky and husband, Michael; and his nine grandchildren, Alison Archer, Evan Archer, Sofia Evers, Charles Evers, Jacob Evers, Amanda Ford, Coby Brimer, Cassian Evers, and Phoenix Evers. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen Evers; his sister, Mary Alice DeVirgilis; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chick was preceded in death by his sister, Ellie (Evers) Longo Ticola.

Chick will be remembered for his service to his country, his strong work ethic, his ability to fix anything which he credits to his time at Johnson Trade School (now Johnson College), making pizzas, and the life he built with his family. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and the many lives he touched throughout his 84 years.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to his caretaker Mary Berry, the staff of Tidewell Hospice, and the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Nursing Home for the excellent care and compassion they provided.

Memorial donations may be made in Chick's honor to the Doug Jacobson Residents Fund Inc. P.O. Box 380771 Port Charlotte, FL 33938 (https://dougjacobsonresidentsfund.org)
