Listen to Obituary
Catherine Ryan died peacefully from brain cancer on March 24, 2016 at her Waverly home surrounded by her loved ones. Her husband of 35 years is Donald Ryan.

Cathy was born in 1951 in Jersey City, NJ and lived in New Jersey until moving to Waverly in 1994. She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Anne Fedash Angowski. Prior to starting a family, Cathy was employed by Chase Manhattan Bank in their International Investment Management Department. She particularly enjoyed interacting with her international customers including a Vatican account. Prior to her illness, she provided childcare for several local families. Cathy loved and cared for each of those children as though they were her own.

The most important priority in Cathy's life was being a wife and mother. She spent countless happy hours volunteering in support of her son's school, church and athletic activities and never missed one of them, no matter how cold or rainy or far away. She was a loving and devoted wife and best friend to Donald. She enjoyed traveling and was proud to have visited 41 states, 11 countries and virtually all of the western national parks. She enjoyed playing golf and taking walks with her friend Sue. She could name virtually every song and artist from the 60's and 70's. Cathy enjoyed watching Big Ben and the Steelers and was a fan every NFL team with a good looking QB except the Patriots.

In addition to her husband, Cathy is survived by her son Andrew Ryan; her sisters, Marie Angowski, and Joan Holmes and husband Chris; her brother Theodore Angowski and wife Carolyn; brother-in-law Stephen Ryan; nine nieces and nephews.

Cathy was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Charles Ryan, who died from Muscular Dystrophy at age 2. Knowing that her disease would be fatal, Cathy looked forward to reuniting with Gregory in heaven.

Cathy and her family are grateful for the numerous friends, family members and caregivers who helped Cathy and her family through this difficult journey. In particular, the family thanks her sisters Marie and Joan, friends Sue, Lindsay, Michele, Dave, Nancy, Kathy and Christie, caregivers Mary Ann and Kim and Don's FNCB colleagues. Additionally, the neuro-oncologists at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC, Dr. Richard Emanuelson, Dr. Linda Barrasse and the doctors and staff at Hemotology and Oncology Associates, Northeastern Radiology and Oncology and Sacred Heart Hospice.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am at the Church of the Epiphany, 1003 Church Hill Rd., Glenburn, with services by Fr. Graham Cliff, pastor. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Svc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Employment Opportunity and Training Center (EOTC), 431 7th Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503.
