Catherine Gorski, 88, of Clarks Summit, died Wednesday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was the wife of Frank Gorski, who died in 1999.

Born in McAdoo, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Caroline Tihansky Kowalchik. She was a 1942 graduate of McAdoo High School and a graduate of the Philadelphia General Hospital Cadet Nursing Program in 1948 during World War II. The Philadelphia General Hospital was a very prestigious hospital, being founded by Florence Nightingale,who sent her best-known student, Alice Fisher of England, to open an Almshouse in Philadelphia in the 18th century. It was in existence until approximately 1960. Catherine was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital in Hazleton, ILGWU Union as a health clinic nurse, and before retirement in 1982, she was employed by the city of Philadelphia as a public health and clinic nurse.

Catherine was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Frank Gorski, South Abington Twp.; and Richard Gorski and wife, Penny, Clarks Summit; a daughter, Anne Sucheski and husband, Michael, Clarks Summit; six grandchildren, Andrew Sucheski, Felicia Pallman, Celia Astheimer, Diane Grodack, and Mark and Karen Gorski; eight great-grandchildren and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Peter, Joseph and John kowalchik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. All those attending are asked to go directly to church.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County, 301 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447.
