Listen to Obituary
Carolyn A. Nowakowski, formerly of Newton Township, and most recently a guest at Riverview Ridge, Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Her husband, Bruney passed away January 3, 2007.

Born on July 12, 1936, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Stanley and Sophia Galushka Kenia. She lived in Newton Township for the majority of her life, and was a 1954 graduate of Newton-Ransom High School. It was in Newton that she met the love of her life, Bruney, and they were married on October 15, 1955. Originally a farm girl, Carolyn had a variety of occupations over the years. She was a waitress at the Terrace Restaurant in Glenburn, along with being the first female school bus driver in the Abington Heights School District. Most recently she was employed by Weis Markets in Clarks Summit.

She always brought the love, hard-work and dedication ethic she learned very early on the farm to whatever she did in life. She was very outgoing, and had a great sense of humor. Cooking Sunday dinner for her family was one of her favorite things to do, along with canning vegetables and making pies. We will miss her.

She is survived by her son, Edward B. Nowakowski and his wife Rita, Factoryville; two daughters, Carrie Hearl and her husband John, Newton Twp. and Bonnie Kester and her husband Jack, Newton Twp.; her seven grandchildren that were the spice of her life, and they include Dan Nowakowski and his fiancée, Jamie Hunt, Tim Nowakowski, Erica, Jamie and Nicholas Kester, and John "J.J."Hearl; two brothers, Henry Kenia, Hackettstown, NJ, and William Kenia, Tunkhannock; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Kenia and a brother, Stanley Kenia, Jr.

A Memorial Maas will be held on April 25 at 10 am from Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 9 until the time of the service.
