Caroline A. Pienkowski, 78, died Thursday at her home in Clarks Summit, where she resided for the past 53 years. Her husband is Joseph V. Pienkowski. The couple celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary Nov. 4. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward G. Bunavage, who died on April 4, 1966.

Born July 19, 1930, in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Ann Brazltus Staples, she was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit. Caroline worked for many years at Smart Styles in Clarks Summit. After retiring from there, she worked part-time at Insalaco's in Clarks Summit, where she was known as the "fish lady" because she prepared the Friday fish samples. She was a member of the Abington Senior Citizen's Center and AARP. An avid shopper, Caroline enjoyed gardening, crocheting, trips to Atlantic City and more recently the Mohegan Sun, and Martz bus tours to many locations in our nation. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her husband, Joseph, took loving care of her during her illness.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa Pienkowski Hancock and husband, Stuart, Clarks Summit; three sons, Edward J. Bunavage and wife, Rita, Tunkhannock; David E. Bunavage and wife, Lynne, Falls; and Joseph V. Pienkowski Jr. and wife, Kristin, Scranton; a stepdaughter, Leona Pienkowski White and husband, William, Jermyn; and 14 grandchildren, Olivia, Baden, James and Thomas Hancock, Maddi and Cameron Bunavage, Jessie Place, Douglas, Karen and Amy Bunavage, Brittany and Amanda Pienkowski, and Jennifer and Kimberly White.

The funeral will be Monday from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Benedict, Newton-Ransom Boulevard, Clarks Summit. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.

Friends may call Sunday, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, 19140; or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
