Carlene A. Howard, AIU, CPIW, 84, Clarks Summit died Monday at Allied Skilled, Scranton. She was the widow of Norman K. Howard.
Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Val Francesco. As a young girl, she entertained the troops with Major Bows and the USO during WW2. She was crowned as the "Sweetheart of Fort Dix" and received a medal from the President for her shows.
Carlene graduated from West Philadelphia High School and earned insurance degrees from the Philadelphia Institute of Insurance. She was a member of Standing Room Only and Director/Accompanist of the Young At Heart Singers.
Prior to retirement, she worked for Ohio Casualty Insurance for 25 years. She was a member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church. Carlene had a love for music and always sang with her heart and soul. She was known throughout the area for playing at nursing homes and various Veterans events. A devoted Mother and Grandmother, her family meant everything to her. One of her biggest joys was her dog Melody. She loved sitting and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with her.
Surviving are her daughter, Debbie Zborovian and her husband Jack of Duryea; her son, Al Moyer and his wife Daniela of Blakely; grandchildren Bradley Don Moyer and fiance Danielle, Gregory (Grizz) Moyer, Matthew Moyer, Angela and Michael Curmaci.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Moyer III, and grandson Joseph A. Curmaci, Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit with interment to follow at Clarks Green Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 p.m to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
