Byron Miles, 75 of Clarks Summit died Saturday in Gallup, New Mexico. He was the husband of the late Jeanne Corrigan Miles who died in 2010.

Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Chester B. and Hazel May Turner Miles. He was a 1957 graduate of Clarks Summit High School and went on to attend Berkley School of Music in Boston. He was a proud US Navy veteran and played the trumpet in the Navy band. Byron was the co. owner of Miles and Winedrake with his friend Peter Winedrake for many years and went on to become owner and operator of Hop Bottom Sales for over 26 years Prior to his retirement he was employed by Wilkes-Barre Truck Center.

He was a member of the Scranton Canoe Club, and was a very gifted trumpet and piano player.

Byron was grateful for all the friends and colleagues he had throughout his life and was blessed to have each and everyone of them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are a son Chet Miles, Clarks Summit,; two daughters Stacy Gordon and her husband Dr. Michael, Clarks Green and Kimberly Bonczek and her husband Jim, Clarks Summit; six grandchildren Sean and Liam Gordon, Jack Miles, Elizabeth, Abigail, and Sadie Bonczek; three brothers Thomas Miles, Clarks Summit, Robert Miles, Waverly and Richard Miles and his wife Harriet, Macon NC; a sister Judy DeMont, Lexington, MA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a nephew Christopher Miles DeMont who died in 2012.

A blessing service will be held on Friday at 10 am at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
