Edward D. "Topper" Byer Sr., Clarks Summit, died Friday morning in Community Medical Center. He was the husband of the former, Jean Jarvis, the couple were married in 1955.

Born in Detriot, MI, son of the late Gary and Florence VanOrden Byer. He was a resident of Clarks Summit for the past 31 years. Prior to retirement he was a Locomotive Engineer working for Lackawanna, Erie, and Conrail Railroads. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in Japan with the United States Air Force.

He was a member of the Church of Epiphany in Glenburn, the Waverly Lodge 301 F & AM, and Abington Keystone Consistery. A former member of the Dalton Fire Company and a board member of the Clarks Summit Sun and Tree Commitee. He was a graduate of Dalton High School, with a class of only 13.

He enjoyed being a HAM Radio Operator as a member of S.P.A.R.K., as well as a memeber of the Astronomy Club with Keystone College.

Also surviving are two sons, Edward D. Byer Jr., Clarks Summit and Harry Byer, Duyrea; a daughter, Susan Foley, and her husband, Michael, Archbald; a brother, James Byer, Scranton; two grandchildren, Allison Zicker and Kristina Jackson; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Brady.

A funeral will be held on Monday at 1pm from the Church of Epiphany in Glenburn with services by the Rev. Craig Sweeny, rector. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, Masonic services at 3pm.
