Bruce E. Davis, Sr., 82, Newton Township, passed away, in the house he built, on Sunday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by the former Margaret Richards, who was his wife, caregiver, and best friend of over sixty years.
Born at home in Newton Township, he was the son of the late James A. and Ethelyn Evans Davis. He was a graduate of Newton-Ransom High School, Keystone Junior College, and East Stroudsburg State College (now ESU) and, prior to retirement, was a mathematics teacher in the Lackawanna Trail School District. Bruce was proud to be a charter member of the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company and helped to found the Summit Wrestling Club. He was also a member of the Countryside Community Church.
Bruce will be remembered for his relentless "Dad jokes" and his ability to find humor in every situation. He was full of life lessons like "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." and "There's no sense in being dumb unless you show it." and many others that aren't appropriate to print. He was his family's "go to" guy and could fix anything.
Among his many blessings were his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and he always made sure they knew how proud he was of them.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Douglas and wife Cheryl of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bruce Jr. and wife Wendy of Aurora, Colorado, and Brian "Hoover" and wife Peggy of Ransom Township; daughter Karen Rickaby and husband Brian of Falls; twelve grandchildren: Jareth (Karah) and Norah Rickaby, DJ, Chandler, Douglas Jr., Nicholas, Arla, Haddy, Alexis, Miranda, Gabrielle, and Marshall Davis; one great granddaughter, Adley; sister Hazel Keyes of Kansas; brother Gary and wife Joelene of Tampa, FL; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother James A. Davis, Jr., who he affectionately referred to as his "womb mate"; and sisters Marilyn Kline and Jeanette Heller.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 10th at 3 p.m. from Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive, Newton Township. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Masks will be required at all times at both visitation and service.
In the wise words of Bruce, "It's okay if you don't come to my funeral. I won't be at yours either."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Countryside Church Mortgage Reduction Fund or the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company, 1890 Newton-Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and the many friends and family who helped care for Bruce.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
