Betty Thomas, South Abington Twp., passed away at Allied Hospice on Monday. She was the widow of
Edward Thomas Jr., who died November 17, 1981.
Born in Scranton on December 18, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Blanche and Frank Bailey.
Prior to retirement she was employed by Sears as the in-store decorator. She was a member of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church for over 50 years and a member of the Clarks Green United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Abington Women's Club where she served on the Board of Directors and as a Club Trustee.
In her younger years she enjoyed her summers at the family cottage at Lake Sheridan. She most recently resided at The Pines Assisted Living Facility in Clarks Summit where she made many friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Thomas; granddaughters Susan Griffin and husband Rick, and Laura Kinney and husband Mark; two great granddaughters Erica Griffin and Hailee Kinney; a sister Jane Dobrensky (Nick) and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Edward F. Thomas, in 1997, sisters Mary Williams and Hazel Frantz and a brother, Marshall Bailey.
The family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care she received from the entire staff at The Pines during her residence there and to the nurses at Allied Hospice who treated her with dignity and compassion during her short stay.
The service will be held on Saturday, September 15, at 10 a.m. at Clarks Green United Methodist Church, 119 Glenburn Rd., Clarks Green. Interment will follow in Clarks Green Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday, September 14, from 4 to 7 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
