Betty Eleanor Shell

Betty Eleanor Shell, 76, of Dalton, died Tuesday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Cecil F. Shell who died in 1988.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Owen Franklin and Eleanor Betty Snyder Simonson. Prior to retirement she was a van driver for the Abington Heights School District as well as the Secretary of Our Lady of the Abingtons Church. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Dalton Fire Co.

She enjoyed baking and her trips to Lancaster with her family. Betty had a special love for her nieces and nephews.

Surviving are a sister, Donna Mooney , Dunmore; a brother O.J. Simonson and his wife Barbara, Dunmore; nieces, Eleanor Mae Reese, Kimberly Flannigan, Kristen Howell, Annalise Simonson, Linda Gable; nephews, John Mooney and Jamie Simonson; great nieces, Julia Mae Reese, Nicole Cimino, Jordan and Avery Flannigan, Olivia and Aubrie Simonson; great nephews, James Kilonsky, Connor Simonson, and Benjamin and Ryan Howell; a sister in law, Harriet Locker; several cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven P. Shell who died in 1997, and a brother in law, John J. Mooney.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 AM from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Taylor. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Dalton.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
