Betty J. DeLeo, 88, of West Abington Twp., died Tuesday morning at home. She was the widow of the late Rocco DeLeo, who died in 2005.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Albert Deitzer and Beryl Black Deitzer, her main occupation was mother and housewife. She was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends who were homebound. In her early years, she was employed at the Dunmore Candy Kitchen. Among other things, Betty was the past president of the local Democratic club, did some volunteer work with the and was a member of Parker Hill Community Church, Clarks Summit.

Betty loved to bake, especially pies and cookies, for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook, with many showing up at dinner time for one of her great meals. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her daughters' clothing when they were growing up. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are four daughters, Carol Courtney and husband, David, Grand Junction, Colo.; Barbara Evers and husband, Chick, Port Charlotte, Fla.; Grace Schmitt and husband, David, West Abington Twp.; and Liz Whipple and husband, Jim, Harrison, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Briana Murray, David Schmitt, Chad Evers, Barbie Lesnesky and Cody, Daniel and Andrew Whipple; three stepgrandchildren, Jane Archer, Charles Evers and Colleen Kester; five great-grandchildren, Karen and Taylor Schmitt and Nathaniel, Jeremiah and Elijah Murray; her companion, Mario Migliori; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert DeLeo; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth DeLeo; and three brothers, Edward, Albert "Dick" and Thomas Deitzer.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Parker Hill Community Church, 607 N. Abington Road, Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. -
