Betsy A. Stemrich

Betsy Ann Stemrich, 87, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday evening at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton. She was the wife of Robert Stemrich, who died in 1981.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Balas Kasper, she was a graduate of GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre. Betsy devoted her life to caring for her family. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snow Church in Clarks Summit, where she sang in the choir. Betsy was a loving and caring mother who also enjoyed bowling and knitting.

Surviving are two daughters, Gail Kavalow, Clarks Summit; and Donna Burger and her companion, Darrell Olver, Waymart; two sons, John Stemrich and his wife, Carol, Dalton; and Robert Stemrich and his wife, Michelle, Factoryville, a sister, Marie Duffy, Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren, Susan Kavalow-Huie and her husband, David, Conshohocken; Timothy Stemrich and his wife, Chelsey; Factoryville; Shawna Stemrich and her fiancé, Michael Kopa, Factoryville; Sean Burger, Philadelphia; Thomas Stemrich, Bronx N.Y.; and Carrie Stemrich, San Diego, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Bennett and Madeline Kavalow-Huie, and Kinsley Stemrich; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Stemrich; a grandson, Michael Stemrich; three brothers, John, Carl and Joseph Kasper; and sister, Rosella Kasper.

The family would like to thank Allied Skilled Nursing and AseraCare Hospice for the compassion and loving care they provided to Betsy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. All those attending are asked to go directly to church.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
