Beth Susan Ames, 62, of Clarks Summit, PA died on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at
Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center and Hospice Services surrounded by loved ones.
Born June 14, 1954, Beth was the daughter of the late Harold and Betty LaCoe Ames.
A graduate of Abington Heights High School, Beth earned a BS degree in education from Mansfield University.
Beth worked for 40 years at Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency Head Start. Starting as a teacher in the Carbondale and Mid-valley Centers, she later moved to the administration building and served as the Career Development Coordinator responsible for monitoring 7 Head Start centers.
Beth was an avid gardener both inside and outside her home. She rarely gave up on a plant and was able to nurse life back into brown lifeless sticks. Beth loved to read. She was a reluctant camper but willingly traveled most of the US including Alaska in a tent. Beth was a good cook and an even better baker. Her Christmas cookies were a treat.
Beth was a Special Olympics ski coach and volunteer. She gave up many weekends chaperoning athletes to events across the state.
She is survived by her uncle, Dr. Elvin La Coe (Esther), cousins Chris LaCoe (Jackie), Ursula(Clay)Nichols, Jackie(Steve) Berry; her constant companion and friend of 45 years, Pat Green; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Beth was pre-deceased by her brother Robert Ames and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Beth will be dearly missed by her many friends, family, and especially her adopted family-the Greens. Beth was always there whenever anyone needed a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, a loan of money or just someone with whom to talk. Beth had a wry sense of humor and was always ready with a witty retort.
Donations in Beth's memory may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter where Beth got her much loved and spoiled cat Kiki, the Newton Ransom Fire Co. (where both her parents served), and/or the Countryside Community Church of which she was a member.
Many thanks to Beth's fan club-Sara, Jennifer, and Lisa; her good friend Carol, her cousins-Lenay & Jerry, Bev and Peg for tending to her every want and need during her illness and showing her how much she was truly loved.
The family would like to thank the administration, nurses, aides and support staff of Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center and Hospice Services for their attentiveness, gentleness and kindness to Beth during her illness. They also took care of her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 am from the Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Dr., Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Interment will be private in Milwaukee Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday from 9 am until the service at 11 am at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
