Beatrice E. Hostrander, 77, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. Her husband is Richard J. Hostrander; they were married for 55 years.

Born Aug. 13, 1931, in Westover, Pa., daughter of the late Robert and Ferne Kitchen Smith of State College, she was a graduate of Lock Haven University and taught for 33 years in the Abington Heights School District, at Newton Ransom and Waverly elementary schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. She was the president of the Golden Age Club of Nativity of Our Lord Church, Scranton; vice president of the Allied Volunteers, and assistant manager of the Allied Gift Shop. She was a Red Cross volunteer, a member of the Big Band Society of Pennsylvania for 12 years, an RSVP volunteer and a member of AARP and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Also surviving are a son, Craig Hostrander and wife, Sharyl, Collegeville; two daughters, Belinda Sheroda and husband, Michael, Middletown, Md.; and Lori Cirucci and husband, John, Schnecksville; three sisters, Phyllis Merrill, Coblesville, N.Y.; Marlene Smith, State College; and Carol Bruszewski, Mount Airy, Md.; two brothers, Derrill Smith, Port Matilda, Pa.; and Richard Smith, State College; two granddaughters, Sara Sheroda and Julie Cirucci; five grandsons, Tony Cirucci, Jake and Reed Hostrander, Vaughn and Brian Sheroda; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Weaver, King of Prussia.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, Stone Avenue, with services by the Rev. William Carter, pastor. Interment, Clarks Green Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Monday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home,418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit or the American Cancer Society, 712 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor, 18517.
