Barry Conrad Phillips, 58, of Clarks Green died Friday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was the husband of Sarah Lynn Ewert Phillips. The couple would have been married 36 years this July.
Born in Paw Paw, Mich., son of the late Max W. and Katherine E. French Phillips, he was a graduate of Lawton High School. He received two bachelor's degrees and a master's degree from Tennessee Temple University, a doctorate degree from Pensacola Christian College and two master's degrees and another doctorate from Baptist Bible Seminary. He was employed as an educator and administrator by Summit University. He was a member of Summit Baptist Bible Church, Clarks Summit.
Barry was an avid reader, and studied various languages. He also loved outdoor activities, especially gardening.
Also surviving are three daughters, Jana Phillips, Marietta; Sharon Morris and her husband, Brad, Lancaster; and Elisabeth Phillips, Clarks Green; a sister, Maxine Ray and her husband, Ernest, Mattawan, Mich.; a brother, Gary Phillips and his wife, Karen, Hamilton, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Barry spent his life loving God and loving his neighbor. He shared his love of learning with students of all ages. He helped others find success and follow their dreams, content to stay in the background without recognition or applause. After his injuries from a car crash in 2003, he accepted what he was dealt and moved forward without succumbing to a victim mentality. He demonstrated faithfulness to his God, his family and his community.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Summit Baptist Bible Church, 232 Nobel Road, Clarks Summit. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Clarks Green Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
