Barbara Virginia "Ginny" Miller of Clarks Summit, Pa., and Stuart, Fla., died peacefully Thursday morning at her daughter Janine's home in Clarks Summit at age 83.

Former wife of 27 years to the late Donald F. Miller, she is survived by her sister, M. Jeanette Stoeckel and long-time companion, Arthur J. Atherton of Cleveland, Ohio.

Born in Hooper, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Gove and Mary Mitchell. A graduate of Scranton Central High School and Syracuse University, N.Y., she was an exemplary seamstress and craftperson. Strong willed and compassionate, she was also a warm, loving, active and generous mother and wife, who especially loved nature, traveling, knitting, working for her family's business — Mitchell Welding Supply, her sole sister, 'Penny,' and Florida.

Her family is indebted to her kindness and encompassing spirit.

She was a longtime guild and choir member of Church of Epiphany in Glenburn, Pa., prior to her relocation to Stuart, Fla., and spent most of her summers at naturally beautiful Lake Waynewood, Hamlin, Pa. A special thanks goes to her sister 'Penny,' daughters, Jill and Janine, and son, Scott, who provided devoted and compassionate care for her at home in her later years.

Surviving are four sons, Gregg R. Miller, Middletown, N.Y.; Donald K. Miller and wife, Annette, Factoryville; Jeffery L. Miller and wife, Keren Ann, Jessup; and Scott R. Miller, North Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Jill L. Miller, Harrisburg; and Janine L. Port, Clarks Summit; a sister, Jeanette "Penny" Stoeckel, Allentown; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Jared, Maggie, Amy, Nicole, Alyssa, Lindsay, Courtney and Ian; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Zaiden; a niece, Barbara Davies and husband, Robert, Clarks Summit; two nephews, Kurt Stoeckel, Calif.; and William Stoeckel and wife, Debbie, Allentown; and a great-nephew, Brent Stoeckel and wife, Jenifer and family, Clarks Summit.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 1003 Church Hill, Glenburn, PA 18411, with services by the Rev. Craig Sweeney, pastor. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
