Augustus Henry Steppacher Jr., a resident of Bedford Towers, Clarks Summit, Pa., passed away on February 3, 2016. He was known as "Gus" to friends and "Butch" to family. He was born in Scranton, Pa. on June 11, 1941, and was the son of the late Augustus Henry Steppacher and Mary Moessner Steppacher.

Gus was a very personable and kind person who attended St. Paul's Grade School in Scranton and graduated from Norwood Academy, Philadelphia. He was employed by A.H. Steppacher Tire Service and Green Ridge Nursing Home (Scranton, Pa.) prior to his early retirement. Upon retirement, Gus devoted his time and passion volunteering for many different charities - constantly visiting and helping the poor and other disadvantaged individuals. Gus was the epitome of being selfless and always offered a helping hand to others.

Gus loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited every one of the 50 United States and all of Canada. He enjoyed getting away to Atlantic City and the New Jersey shore. Gus adored his nieces and nephews and loved to travel to celebrate important events in their lives.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Mary; his brother, Paul A. Steppacher; his sister, Karen Bobb Starr Milligan; and his nephew, Paul Ryan Steppacher. He is survived by his brothers, Robert C. Steppacher, M.D., Barnegat Light, N.J.; and William C. Steppacher, Esq., Waverly, Pa.; and sisters, Lois S. Lazzarino and Mary Louise Steppacher, both of New York, N.Y.; and Ann S. Chamberlain, Farmingville, N.Y. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Robert C. Steppacher Jr., M.D.; Alexander R. Steppacher; John Michael Milligan Jr.; Augustus Milligan; William C. Steppacher Jr., Esq.; Marissa Steppacher Ellis, Esq.; Heidi L. Steppacher; Tara Steppacher; Erin F. Steppacher; and 1st Lieutenant Mary Katherine Jorgensen.

Gus was always grateful for the staff and residents at Bedford Towers who were his extended family for 31 years. The family would like to thank Dr. V. Dhaduk and Dr. Michael Kondash for their compassionate care throughout the years.

The funeral will be held at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, Pa., this Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 8:30 a.m., officiated by Pastor Dan Miller, Clarks Green Assembly of God Church, Interment Cathedral Cemetery, Oram Street, Scranton, Pa.

Friends may call Friday, February 5, 2016, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home.
