Arthur Henry Mears, 90, of Clarks Summit, died Monday in the VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Elizabeth M. McHale. The couple recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Born in Newton, son of the late Edgar and Fannie Bagg Mears, he resided most of his life in Clarks Summit. Before retiring, he worked as a mechanic for Russell Motor Co., Bradley-Lawless Co. and Kost Tires. For many years, he and his son, Frank, built and raced sports cars at local tracks. He and his wife also enjoyed many trips to Florida and Atlantic City.
Also surviving are a daughter, Nancy LaFontaine, Clarks Summit; two sons, Frank and wife, Renee, Factoryville; and Arthur and wife, Karen, Justus; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Virginia Brown, Scranton; and Betty Mears, Newton.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Alfred, William, Thomas and Frank; and a sister, Minnie Covey.
A blessing service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Monsignor James McGarry, pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit. Interment, Newton Cemetery, Newton Township.
