Ann Barbara Balko

Ann Balko, 87, of Dalton, died peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday morning at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton. She was the wife of the Late Charles Balko who died in 1966.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Vincenta Mary Obiedzinski Kucz. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School and was employed as a union seamstress for the I. L.G.W. Union Garment Industry. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Church, Lake Winola.

Ann loved baking for her family, especially her traditional cookies and preparing her highly anticipated ethnic Christmas Eve dinner. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch and bird watching.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff, and especially the nurse's aides for their wonderful care and compassion that they gave to Ann during her stay.

Surviving is a son Charles and his wife Carol, Dalton; a daughter Barbara Filipiak and her husband Stephen, Harding; three grandchildren Stephen Filipiak and David and Amy Balko; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother John Kucz, a sister Stella Bazur, a half-brother Stanley Kozloski, and a half-sister Helen Kakareka.

A memorial mass will be held Tuesday at 10 am from St. Mary of the Lake Church, 1872 Dalton Rd. Lake Winola Pa. 18625. Interment will follow in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery Taylor.

Friends may call Tuesday 9am until time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Allied Skilled Nursing 3 North Alzheimer's Unit, 303 Smallacombe Dr. Scranton Pa. 18508.
