Anita Pfister of Waverly Township died peacefully in her home on Thursday, July 27 under Hospice care. She was 72 years old.

Anita was always known for her kind demeanor and deep spiritual faith. She led an authentically Christian, mission-driven life and was most fulfilled when helping others, especially while working as a case manager with VNA Hospice & Home Health in Olyphant.

She was born Anita Marie Hendershot in Newark, NJ on September 10, 1944 to Harold and Thelma (Lish) Hendershot. She grew up the first of four children in Orange and Rockaway, NJ, graduating from Morris Hills High School in 1962. She attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark, earning her degree in 1965. In 1966 she married Roger Pfister at the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway. Before moving to Northeastern PA, Anita and Roger were raising their two children, David and Laura, in Roseland, NJ.

The family moved to Waverly Township in 1989, and shortly after Anita began working as a case manager for Hospice, retiring in 2006. During her time in the area she served as a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarks Summit where she joined a relief mission in response to Hurricane Katrina. She later became a member of Parker Hill Community Church in Clarks Summit where she volunteered in the nursery. She was also a volunteer with Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.

In addition to her immediate family, Anita is survived by her brothers Harold and John Hendershot, sister Jackie Hendershot-Sapio and grandchild Cassandra Giltzow.
