Allan Andrew Glass, 80, of Scranton died Friday afternoon at Green Ridge Care Center after a short stay.

Born on Dec. 20, 1936, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Louis and Romayne Boston Glass. He was educated in the Scranton School District and graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1954. He received a bachelor's degree in secondary education from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in 1958. He also attended Middlebury College in Vermont and McGill University in Montreal, Canada. His professional career was spent teaching French, English and humanities in the Abington Heights School District, Clarks Summit, until he retired in 1993. Even in retirement, he often thought of the many students who passed through his classroom and often encountered former students who remembered him fondly. He attended Covenant Presbyterian Church, Scranton, where he had been confirmed many years earlier.

An avid reader of the classics as well as modern fiction, he was also devoted to classical music, especially opera. He was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild for many years and was able to attend HD transmissions of Metropolitan Opera performances in a local theater even during this last season.

He is survived by his friend and companion, Miriam Bundy, and two feline children, Theresa and Harry. They wish to thank the many healthcare professionals who took care of their "Poppy" during his many illnesses, especially those at Kindred Home Health Care and Green Ridge Care Center

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elva Lou Hill; and two feline children, Dolly and Toby, who wait for him at the Rainbow Bridge.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 816 Olive St., Scranton, to be held by the Rev. Scott Loomer.  Interment will take place in Stroudsburg Cemetery, Stroudsburg, PA.
