Alfred Lockett of South Abington Twp. died Wednesday evening at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton. He and his wife, Connie Smith Lockett, would have been married for 53 years on Sept. 10.
Born in Moosic on March 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Maxwell and Marion Major Lockett. He was a graduate of Moosic High School, class of 1950, where he served as co-captain of the football team. He then served in the Army 82nd Airborne Division. Before retirement, he was a plant superintendent for Trane Co., where he worked for 37 years. He was a member and past master of Moosic Masonic Lodge 664 F&AM, Keystone Consistory and Irem Temple Shrine. Al served as a South Abington Twp. supervisor for 18 years, as well as on the board of the Joint Sewer Authority and South Abington Sewer Authority. He was a former member of Chinchilla United Methodist Church and attended Parker Hill Community Church.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Sacred Heart Hospice and the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center for their compassionate care and kindness during Al's illness.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark and wife, Danyll, Paoli; and Paul and wife, Joelyn, South Abington Twp.; a daughter, Marcy Pentasuglio and husband, Scott, South Abington Twp.; nine grandchildren, Katie, Adam, Bryan, Lauren and Lucy Lockett; Marni, Hunter, Brock and Tate Pentasuglio; a sister, Phyllis Chase, Old Forge; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lockett.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Parker Hill Community Church, 607 N. Abington Road, Clarks Summit. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Langecliffe Cemetery, Avoca.
A greeting time will be Saturday from 10 until time of the service.
